The Door Christian Fellowship Church of Beeville is a new congregation founded by Pastor Edward and ShaWuana May. This church was planted out of a conviction that Beeville, Texas deserves a church that takes the Gospel seriously — one that does not just talk about reaching people, but actually goes to them.
From the very first day, the people of The Door went to the streets of Beeville — with signs and megaphones — proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ before the first service had even concluded.
We are a church in our early days, and we are not ashamed of that. Every great church had a first Sunday. This is ours — and God is already at work.

Pastor Edward and ShaWuana May are the founding pastors of The Door Christian Fellowship Church of Beeville. They planted this church out of a genuine love for this community and a deep conviction that God has something remarkable in store for South Texas.
From the very first service, they have brought an authentic passion for the Gospel — taking it to the streets, into the community, and to anyone who will listen.
Hello, my name is Edward May. My wife, ShaWuana, and I pastor The Door Christian Fellowship Church in Beeville, Texas.
If you had told me years ago that one day I would be a Christian pastor, married to a wonderful woman of faith and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I probably would not have believed you. ShaWuana and I came from very different backgrounds, and my own journey to Jesus was not a straight or easy road.
As far back as I can remember, my family was part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We became Mormons when I was very young and living in Jacksonville, Florida. When I was 10 years old, my father died. As I grew older, my family became less involved in the Mormon church, and I began to have questions about what I had been taught and how it compared with biblical Christianity.
By the time I was in college in 1996, a woman I was dating challenged me about my Mormon beliefs and encouraged me to attend a presentation about Mormonism at Del Mar College. What I heard there caused me to begin seriously examining my faith for the first time. By the age of 24, I had come to the conclusion that I could no longer continue in the Mormon faith. But leaving one belief system did not automatically mean I had surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. That happened the following year.
Giving My Life to Jesus
In January 1997, I became involved with a Christian prison outreach called the Bill Glass Weekend of Champions. Our group traveled from San Antonio to the Briscoe Unit in Cotulla, Texas, where we spent the weekend ministering to prisoners. I knew very little of the Bible at the time, yet something was happening in my heart.
On our way back to Corpus Christi, a young woman asked me a simple question: “Are you saved?” I told her I was a good person. She gently challenged me — had I really understood at age 10 what it meant to surrender my life to Jesus? For the next 10 or 20 minutes I sat there thinking. Finally, I realized that pride was keeping me from something I desperately needed. So I said yes.
“I prayed and asked Jesus Christ to come into my life and forgive me of my sins. Something changed. It felt as though a weight had been lifted from me. The fog and depression that had surrounded my life began to lift.”
That was the beginning of my new life in Jesus Christ.
Finding a Church That Changed My Direction
After getting saved I began attending church in Corpus Christi, then continued my education at Texas A&M University–Kingsville studying engineering. By 1999 I was spiritually struggling and dangerously close to walking away from God.
Then I discovered that The Door Christian Fellowship Church in Kingsville was holding a Bible study on the university campus. What impressed me was how seriously they took the Bible — and the sincerity of people who genuinely cared about the Gospel and believed Jesus Christ could truly change a person's life.
That Sunday I attended The Door Kingsville and met Pastor Chris Kelly and his wife Lauren, John Nicolas and his wife Melissa. I rededicated my life to Jesus Christ and John Nicolas prayed with me. I became so serious about getting right with God that John eventually had to tell me: “My brother, you don't have to come to the altar for salvation every time.” I was learning that salvation was not about earning God's acceptance — it was about faith in Jesus and learning to live for Him.
Graduation, the Air Force, and a Crossroads
In December 2002, I graduated from Texas A&M University–Kingsville with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Computer Science, earning above a 3.0 GPA while working my way through college. During that time I had also met a young woman named ShaWuana Johnson. I liked her. She did not like me — at least not yet.
After graduating I moved back to Corpus Christi. The job market was difficult in the aftermath of September 11, and I eventually began exploring becoming an officer in the United States Air Force. Everything seemed to be moving in that direction. But spiritually I found myself at a crossroads.
I started praying every morning — something I had never consistently done. The more I prayed, the stronger the conviction that I was supposed to stay in the Corpus Christi area. The strange thing was that I did not particularly want to stay. But I believed God was telling me to. So I canceled my plans to enter the Air Force and trusted God with what would happen next. At the time, I did not understand why. Soon, I would.
God Was Building a Life I Could Not Yet See
A few months later, something changed between ShaWuana and me. One day she came up to me and told me that she liked me. I could hardly believe it.
After the 2004 Corpus Christi Faith Rally, we began courting seriously with marriage in mind. Pastor Chris Kelly challenged me about my responsibility as a future husband — I needed to find work that would allow me to provide. Instead of getting offended, I applied myself, and was hired by Eagle Automation as a Systems Engineer, a position I would hold for 14 years.
In September 2004, ShaWuana and I were married. It remains one of the greatest days of my life. Looking back, I can see what I could not see when I was praying about the Air Force: God was establishing my career, my marriage, my church involvement, and eventually my calling into ministry. ShaWuana and I have now been married for more than 20 years.
From Corpus Christi to Beeville
In 2020, our church sent ShaWuana and me to Portland, Texas to pioneer a new church. For five and a half years we labored there, doing our best to reach people with the Gospel. The work remained small, but those years taught us lessons about faithfulness, perseverance, and trusting God even when things do not happen the way you expect.
In October 2025, that season came to an end and we closed the Portland church. But God was not finished with us. In March 2026, we moved to Beeville, Texas, where today we have the privilege of pastoring The Door Christian Fellowship Church at 709 E. Houston Street.
When I look back over my life, I see a young man who thought he already knew what he believed — someone who experienced loss, heartbreak, confusion, wrong turns, and moments when I nearly walked away from God altogether. But I also see the hand of God. Jesus met me when I did not have everything figured out. He met me when I had questions. He met me when I was discouraged. And He began changing my life one decision at a time.
Today, I have a relationship with Jesus Christ, a wife I love, more than 20 years of marriage, a career God provided, and the privilege of preaching the same Gospel that changed my own life.

01Evangelism
We believe the Gospel is not meant to stay inside four walls. Sharing it — in conversation, in the community, on the street corner — is the foundation of everything we do. We do not wait for people to come to us. From day one, the people of The Door went into the streets of Beeville with signs and megaphones, openly proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ.
02Discipleship
Coming to faith is just the beginning. We are committed to walking alongside people — teaching, equipping, and helping each person grow into who God made them to be. Through consistent, practical Bible teaching across three services each week, we believe ordinary people can be transformed into faithful followers of Jesus Christ.
03Church Planting
Every city deserves a church. We are part of a worldwide fellowship that sends men and women to start brand-new congregations in new communities. The Door Beeville is itself the fruit of church planting. Our prayer is that God would use this congregation to send more laborers — planting churches in cities that need them throughout South Texas and beyond.
What We Believe
Our beliefs are rooted in the Bible and shape how we live, worship, serve, and share the Gospel.
We believe there is only one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe God the Father is the Creator of the universe. He created mankind in His own image for fellowship and called mankind back to Himself through Christ after the rebellion and fall of man.
We believe Jesus Christ is eternally God. He was with the Father and the Holy Spirit from the beginning, and through Him all things were made. He left Heaven and became incarnate by the Holy Spirit through the Virgin Mary. He is forever one Christ with two natures—God and man—in one Person.
We believe the Holy Spirit is God, the Lord and Giver of Life. He was active in the Old Testament and was given to the Church in fullness at Pentecost. He empowers the saints for service and witness, cleanses us from the old nature, and conforms us to the image of Christ.
We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues, subsequent to conversion. This baptism releases the fullness of the Spirit and is evidenced by the fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
We believe the Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments, is the only infallible and inspired Word of God. Its authority is ultimate, final, and eternal. It cannot be added to, subtracted from, or superseded in any regard.
The Bible is the source of all doctrine, instruction, correction, and reproof. It contains all that is needed for guidance in godliness and practical Christian conduct.
We believe Christ’s vicarious death on the cross paid the penalty for the sins of the whole world. The benefits of healing—body, soul, and spirit—are also provided for in the atonement.
We believe salvation is a free gift of God, based on the merits of the death of His Son and received by faith.
Salvation is effected through personal repentance, belief in the Lord Jesus Christ for justification, and personal acceptance of Him as Lord and Savior for regeneration.
We believe the Christian life is to be one of consecration, devotion, and holiness. The shortcomings of the individual are part of the ongoing process of sanctification.
The Christian life is filled with trials, tests, and spiritual warfare against an enemy. For those who abide in Christ until death or His return, the promises of eternal blessing in the presence of God are assured.
We believe the Church is the Body of Christ and the habitation of God among the saints through the Spirit.
Every believer born of the Spirit has a place in the Church designated by God—a place where Christ is working in the lives of His called-out people and calling ministers to fulfill the Great Commission: to go into all the world and make disciples of every nation.
We believe in the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
Baptism is the outward sign of what God has already done in an individual’s life and is a public testimony that the person now belongs to Christ. It identifies the believer with the death and resurrection of Jesus and is administered in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The Lord’s Supper is a commemoration of the death of the Lord and is observed in remembrance of Him until He comes again. It is a sign of our participation in Him.
We believe in the bodily and personal second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the saints, the millennium, and the final judgment.
The final judgment will determine the eternal state of both the saints and unbelievers according to their relationship with Jesus Christ.
